Dionysus is a figure from Greek mythology, known as the god of wine, fertility, and ecstasy. He is often depicted as a young, handsome man holding a goblet of wine and surrounded by grape vines. Dionysus is associated with revelry, celebration, and the wild, untamed aspects of nature. He is also a patron of the arts, particularly theater and dance. Followers of Dionysus would participate in wild, hedonistic rituals in his honor, known as Bacchanalia.
